# AppIcons

Use the remote `appicons` MCP server at `https://appicons.co/mcp`. It uses Streamable HTTP, requires no credential, and exposes public App Store metadata through three read-only tools:

- `search_app_icons(query, country?)`: search by app name when the numeric Apple track ID is unknown. It returns up to nine candidates.
- `get_app_icon(app_id, country?)`: look up one app by its positive numeric Apple track ID.
- `open_xcode_icon_generator(app_id, country?)`: return a browser URL that loads that App Store icon into the Xcode icon pack generator.

`country` is an uppercase two-letter App Store storefront code and defaults to `US`. Normalize familiar country names when unambiguous, such as United Kingdom to `GB`; otherwise ask for the storefront rather than inventing one.

## Resolve the request

- Search first when the user gives only a name. If several results are plausible, show a short candidate list with app name, developer, track ID, and storefront; do not silently choose.
- Use `get_app_icon` directly when the user supplies a valid numeric track ID and wants icon metadata or URLs.
- Use `open_xcode_icon_generator` directly when the track ID is known and the user wants an Xcode pack. After a name search, the selected result already contains `generator_url`; avoid a redundant tool call unless the client needs the dedicated generator action.
- Report the storefront because icons and availability can differ by country. Prefer the returned `icon_url`, `app_store_url`, `appicons_url`, and `generator_url`; never construct or guess an artwork URL.
- If no result is found or the service is unavailable, say so. Do not fabricate app metadata or substitute an unrelated image.

## Privacy and boundaries

The MCP tools accept only an app-name query, numeric app ID, and storefront. Never send a user's image bytes, local path, private URL, credentials, or other private content to them. For a user's own image, direct the user to [the browser generator](https://appicons.co/app-icon-generator); the image and Xcode ZIP are processed locally in the browser.

AppIcons finds existing public App Store artwork and prepares icon assets. It does not design a new icon, submit an app, determine copyright or trademark rights, or grant permission to reuse artwork. Make no ownership or licensing claims. Do not use the tools for bulk enumeration or to bypass service limits.

If the MCP tools are unavailable, read the [connection notes](https://github.com/ternome/appstorelogos/blob/main/integrations/appicons-agent-plugin/skills/appicons/references/connections.md). Installing this skill alone does not register an MCP server in every host.
